Holocaust Memorial Day, Bulgaria

On 10 March Bulgaria will hold a concert to commemorate ' the Day of the Salvation of the Bulgarian Jews and the Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust'.

The concert will be opened by Ms. Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia, followed by Ms. Irit Lillian, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Bulgaria, Mrs Victoria Meshulam, representative of the Hagada Jewish Choir and Arch. Itzhak Lipovetsky, President of the Israel Bulgaria Friendship Association.

The Tzadikov Israel' choir, the Sofia Boys Choir and the group Septrum will all perform. 

On 10 March a commemorative ceremony is held on an annual basis in front of the memorial plaque next to the National Assembly. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the salvation
of the Bulgarian Jews and to remember the victims of the Holocaust and the 11,343 Jews deported from Bulgaria to Nazi death camps in 1943. Every year, the ceremony is attended by the Chairperson of the Bulgarian parliament, members of parliament, representatives of the president, government officials, representatives of local authorities, representatives of diplomatic missions, representatives of the National
Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues, non-governmental organizations and members of the public.
