The Council of Europe, a Permanent Observer of the ITF, marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2010 with a commemorative ceremony in the forecourt of the Palais de l'Europe, Strasbourg.
At a Ministerial Conference held in Auschwitz from 26-28 January, the FRA released the findings of the first ever EU-wide study on the role of historical sites and museums in teaching about the Holocaust and human rights.
On October 2, Marek Edelman, the last living commander of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, passed away at the age of 90. A member of Bund, Edelman represented the party in the Jewish Combat Organization (Yiddishe Kampf Organizatsye). Edelman was among those who confronted the German forces with the first armed resistance in January 1943 and, in April, opposed mass deportation of the Jewish population, which initiated the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
At the 2009 G8 Summit in Aquila, Italy, the G8 Leaders issued the following Declaration:
"We condemn the declarations of President Ahmadinejad denying the Holocaust."
A letter of intent was signed between the ITF-Chair and the Council of Europe.
