On 6 April 2016 the IHRA Chair, Ambassador Mihnea Constantinescu, met Ambassadors of the IHRA’s member and observer countries in Bucharest to mark the start of Romania’s Chairmanship and to present the Romanian priorities.
The three pillars of the Romanian Chairmanship programme are: work with the media and social media, the consolidation of Holocaust education in member countries and beyond, and the promotion of academic research.
Combatting antisemitism is an additional focus of the Romanian Chairmanship and efforts will be made to seek adoption of a working definition of antisemitism by the IHRA, a topic which was discussed in detail at the diplomatic briefing.
Romania will host the IHRA plenary meetings during its Chairmanship from 23-26 May in Bucharest and from 7-10 November in Iasi.
Romania became a full member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in 2004. Read more about Romania's efforts in Holocaust education, research and remembrance here.
