Ph.D. Programs at the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clark University – Call for Applications

The Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University in Massachusetts, USA, has announced a call for applicants for its Ph.D. program in the areas of Holocaust History and Genocide Studies.

Four core professors serve as cornerstones of the faculty. Twelve additional faculty members from seven different departments, as well as Distinguished Visiting Professors, contribute to a range of courses covering a spectrum of topics pertaining to the history of the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, and comparative genocide (including Africa, the Americas, and Asia).

In addition to the Ph.D. in history, the Strassler Center offers two other doctoral degrees. The intersection of social psychology and history shapes an innovative program in psychology and genocide, which opens new perspectives on the antecedent causes for genocide around the globe, the experiences of different victim groups, the effects of group trauma on society, and the possibilities for political prevention and humanitarian intervention. A new partnership with the Graduate School of Geography will pilot an innovative doctoral track considering the landscapes and spatial dynamics of genocide and mass violence, including the visualization of space and place, population analyses, and resource distribution.

The Strassler Center offers a total financial package including full tuition of $62,380 per year, comprised of full tuition of $40,380, a fellowship package of $17,000 per year, and a yearly research bursary of $5,000. These terms hold throughout the five years of the Ph.D. program.
