School teachers in Scotland are invited to a one-day seminar, organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust in partnership with Scottish Jewish Archives Centre.
Seminar date: 4th April 2017
Location: Glasgow
Application deadline: 31st March 2017
This seminar will explore how teachers can engage with histories of Jewish migration to Scotland in both the primary and secondary classroom. Workshop sessions will promote the importance of teaching about pre-war Jewish life, and engage with the stories of refugees who came to Scotland both before and after the Second World War.
Speakers will include Dr Hannah Holtschneider (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Mia Spiro (University of Glasgow) who will be talking about their recent project Jewish Lives, Scottish Spaces: Jewish Migration to Scotland, 1880-1950. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the work of the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre, including the chance to explore the SJAC's new learning kits which focus on the lives of Jewish refugees who made their home in Scotland. Sessions will additionally be led by members of the Holocaust Educational Trust.
The seminar is open to practising school teachers who currently deliver or intend to deliver Holocaust education in schools in Scotland.
