Professor David Cesarani

26.10.2015

It was with shock and deep sadness that IHRA learned that historian and IHRA delegate Professor David Cesarani passed away on Sunday 25 October.

David Cesarani was a member of IHRA’s Academic Working Group as part of the United Kingdom delegation.

Working as a research professor in History at Royal Holloway, University of London and director of the school’s Holocaust Research Center, David Cesarani wrote and edited numerous publications including After Eichmann: Collective Memory and the Holocaust since 1961, The Final Solution: Origins and Implementation, Justice Delayed: How Britain became a refuge for Nazi war criminals and The Making of Modern Anglo-Jewry.

In 2005, Professor Cesarani was awarded an OBE for "services to Holocaust Education and advising the government with regard to the establishment of Holocaust Memorial Day” and in 2006 he was awarded the National Jewish Book Award for History for “Becoming Eichmann: Rethinking the Life, Crimes and Trial of a Desk Murderer.”

IHRA offers its deepest condolences to his family and colleagues at this difficult time.
