The Polish government has earmarked almost 8.5 million euros for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum.
During the parliamentary session on 2 August, the government allotted 34 million zlotys (€8.5 million or $12 million) to improve visitor access to the Auschwitz memorial and to develop educational programs about the site. The money will be given to local authorities to be spent between 2012 and 2015.
The funding will go towards infrastructural improvements, developing access roads leading to the museum, and teaching undergraduate students about human rights, international relations, and peace initiatives.
