On 25 May 2016, IHRA Honorary Chairman Yehuda Bauer was awarded the National Order for Merit by the President of Romania, H.E. Klaus Iohannis.
The award was given as a sign of appreciation for Professor Bauer's long-standing efforts in the field of Holocaust research and education, and particularly for his work with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
The award ceremony took place at the Residence of the President of Romania, Cotroceni Palace, on the eve of the first IHRA Plenary session under the Romanian Chairmanship in Bucharest, in the presence of IHRA delegates and the diplomatic corps.
