Commemorating the Bucharest Pogrom

On 21 January 2016, the Federation of the Jewish Communities of Romania will organize a commemorative event marking 75 years since the Bucharest Pogrom, which took place between 21 and 23 of January 1941.

Representatives of the Romanian Government, the Presidential Administration, the Jewish community, the non-governmental society (such as Centre for the Study of the Romanian Jewish History (CSRJH) of the Federation of the Jewish Communities of Romania, the National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania “Elie Wiesel”, the Central Association of Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with Israel), as well as members of the diplomatic community in Bucharest will pay their respect to the memory of the victims of the Bucharest Pogrom and will lay wreaths at the Jewish Cemetery situated on the Giurgiu Road, no. 162.

Later on the same day, the Israeli Studies Centre “Goldstein Goren” of the University of Bucharest and the Centre for the Study of the Romanian Jewish History (CSRJH) of the Federation of the Jewish Communities of Romania will organize a round table commemorating 75 years since the Bucharest Pogrom.

Speakers: Lya Benjamin (CSRJH), Mihai Chioveanu (Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest and member of Romanian delegation to IHRA), Adrian Cioflâncă (CSRJH and member of Romanian delegation to IHRA), Alexandru Florian (National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania “Elie Wiesel” and member of Romanian delegation to IHRA), Florin Müller (Faculty of History, University of Bucharest), Valentin Săndulescu (Judaic Studies, University of Bucharest), Ioan Stanomir (Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest), Anca Tudorancea-Ciuciu (CSRJH).

The event will take place at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest, 8 Spiru Haret Street, room “P.P. Negulescu”, Thursday 21 January 2016, from 16:00. Admission free.
