Inter-generational Gathering of Holocaust Refugees, Survivors and Descendants, London

28.11.2014

The Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) is co-organising an historic inter-generational gathering of Holocaust refugees and survivors and their descendants on Sunday 18 January 2015 at the Institute of Education (IoE), 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AL.

The conference, titled Connecting the Generations of the Holocaust: a First, Second, and Third Generation Gathering, will bring together the families of Shoah victims to hear from speakers addressing a number of post-Holocaust subjects, to meet people with similar backgrounds and to share experiences. Among the themes for the day-long seminar are history, psychology and culture and legacy.

As the first generation community dwindles, this timely conference will also explore ways of commemorating the Holocaust for future generations.

As part of the event, Paul Salmons of the IoE will be presenting the results of their ground-breaking research into the impact of Holocaust education on school pupils based on the questionnaire sent to thousands of 11-18 year olds throughout the country.

We are also delighted that Dina Wardi, the psychotherapist and acclaimed author of Memorial Candles, will be one of the three main speakers on the day, which will also feature a panel and two sets of simultaneous workshops involving a broad range of topics, including the contribution of the refugees to Britain, Holocaust-era archives and the psychological impact of surviving the Holocaust.

The AJR is working with the Second Generation Network and the Kindertransport Association Inc. to present this event.
