“Erbe des Zweiten Weltkriegs” Conference

23.02.2011

On 24 March 2011, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports of the Netherlands, in conjunction with the Ständige Konferenz der Leiter der NS-Gedenkorte im Berliner Raum, will be holding a conference entitled "Erbe des Zweiten Weltkriegs" ("Legacy of the Second World War") in Berlin.

The conference will showcase the Heritage of War Programme, a highly successful initiative by the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports.  The aim of the project was to preserve and provide access to important historical material from World War II.  Between 2007 and 2010, 221 projects were awarded a grant from the Heritage of War Programme.  These grants were used to digitize archives, register eyewitness accounts, and make historical sources digitally available to the public.  The results of this project are now accessible on a collection of websites, all of which are listed on www.tweedewereldoorlog.nl.

The Dutch government wishes to share the lessons it has learned from conducting this project with other countries that hold similar material, in partnership with local stakeholders.  In Berlin, the conference will take place at the Embassy of the Netherlands.  For more information on the conference and registration procedures, please click here.  The conference will also be held in Warsaw on 30 March 2011.
