The Holocaust Atlas of Lithuania was initiated in 2010 by the Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum and the Austrian Verein Gedenkdienst. It resulted in a printed version in English and Lithuanian and features an online platform. Both media offer structured and concentrated information on all 234 known mass murder sites in Lithuania. The publication comprises maps, short historical information about the massacres, perpetrators and victims, and information on local monuments. Weight was given to including sites of the early massacres of Jews between late June and early August 1941 as well as to sites with a double history (as in Rainiai) where the memory of the Holocaust is predominantly focused on NKVD killings.
