Waligóra, Father Jacek

Father Jacek Waligóra is a Catholic Priest from Bielsko-Biała (Poland). He has been working in the Archdiocese of Lviv since 1999, and started research on totalitarianism, Nazism, and the Holocaust upon completion of his doctorate in theology in 2009. Father Waligóra has been engaged in the commemoration of killing sites in the Ukrainian/Polish border area, striving for the proper marking of sites and more comprehensive memory including all victims. The case of Dobromil and Lacko (today Solyanuvatka) – where hundreds of Ukrainians, Poles and others were murdered by the NKVD in June 1941, followed by the killing of dozens of Jews by invading Germans, Slovaks and some local collaborators – shows nevertheless a continuing indifference from both Ukrainian and Polish state authorities towards proper on-site memorialization on the “periphery of remembrance”.

See Father Jacek Waligóra's contribution to the IHRA "Killing Sites" volume.
