IHRA Handover, 8 March

On 8 March 2016, Romania will assume the Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
The outgoing Chair Szabolcs Takács of Hungary will hand over the Chairmanship to Ambassador Mihnea Constantinescu of Romania.
The handover ceremony, which will be attended by the diplomatic corps and the media, will take place at the Embassy of Romania in Berlin. The event will be opened by H.E. Mr. Emil Hurezeanu, Ambassador of Romania to the Federal Republic of Germany. Following the speeches by State Secretary Takács and Ambassador Constantinescu, Mr. Laurențiu-Mihai Ștefan, presidential advisor, will address the audience on behalf of the President of Romania, H.E Mr. Klaus Werner Iohannis.
Romania became a member of IHRA in 2004. In 2003 the Romanian authorities set up the 'Elie Wiesel International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania' which released its report in 2004.
