Holocaust Remembrance Day Exhibit Opens in Croatia

02.02.2012

As a part of the commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January, an exhibition of children's artwork is displayed in the Education Centre of the Jasenovac Memorial Area and will be open through February 2012.

The exhibition is the result of cooperation between Yad Vashem and the Croatian Education and Teacher Training Agency, including 8 primary and secondary schools and their teachers and students, who accepted the invitation to participate in the Poster Project as a part of their extra-curricular activities in school.

Children involved in the project made 16 posters related to different issues. Some of the posters are connected to local history, not only suffering but also to friendship and the saving of children and adults during the Holocaust, some are related to the issues of Jewish property, and some of them very successfully present Jasenovac as a place of suffering, but also as a symbol of hope and reconciliation.

Besides the students of the School of Arts and Crafts, who are trained in the visual presentation of their issues, children from different vocational schools were also involved and made excellent works of art.

Some of the posters will be displayed by Yad Vashem's International School for Holocaust Studies, and the whole exhibition will be presented and displayed in Zagreb during the Jewish Film Festival in May 2012.
