“Installation K-19” Presented in Zagreb

As a part of the commemoration of the Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January, an installation was set up at the Square of the Victims of Fascism in Zagreb.

The installation consists of five brick columns that evoke the wall which ran around Jasenovac concentration camp.  The bricks used in the installation originate from Jasenovac and is a work of the sculptor Zlatko Kopljar. It was presented to the public ten days before the Holocaust Remembrance Day, and will remain exhibited in the square for some time.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day the installation was visited by the Croatian President I. Josipović and delegation of the Croatian Government and Parliament, led by Z. Milanović and J. Leko, as well as by the delegation of the City of Zagreb, led by the Mayor M. Bandić. It was also visited by many citizens, who placed pebbles, flowers and candles around the columns in accordance with initiative of the Jasenovac Memorial Site, Jewish Community of Zagreb, Serbian National Council and Association of Croatian Roma.
