Berkhoff, Karel C.

Karel C. Berkhoff is Senior Researcher at the NIOD Institute for War, Genocide, and Holocaust Studies at the Royal Nederlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He studies primarily World War II in Russia and Eastern Europe. His publications include “Harvest of Despair: Life and Death in Ukraine under Nazi Rule” (2004), and “Motherland in Danger: Soviet Propaganda during World War II” (2012). He was the J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Senior Scholar-in-Residence at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of the USHMM in 2010/11 and is currently preparing a monograph about the history and remembrance of Babi Yar. Karel Berkhoff is a member of the Netherlands’ delegation to IHRA.
