On 25 May 2016, IHRA Honorary Chairman Yehuda Bauer was awarded the National Order for Merit by the President of Romania, H.E. Klaus Iohannis. 
From 23-26 May 2016 the IHRA is holding its first bi-annual Plenary meeting under the Romanian Chairmanship in Bucharest. 
On 10 May an International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance delegation participated in a programme on the future of the historic site Staro Sajmište in Belgrade, Serbia. The visit follows up on discussions held during the Debrecen Plenary meetings where IHRA’s experts expressed their concern about the preservation of the Staro Sajmište site due to risks posed by urban development and unclear future plans for a memorial complex.
IHRA Chair's Statement: It was with great concern and disappointment that I learned of an exposition of Holocaust denial cartoons in Teheran following a competition sponsored by two Iranian cultural organizations, as part of the Cartoon Biennale.

The Forgotten Voices Conference, organised by the European Roma and Travellers Forum in cooperation with the Council of Europe took place from Wednesday 6 to Thursday 7 April 2016 in the Romanian Parliament in Bucharest, Romania.
On 6 April 2016 the IHRA Chair, Ambassador Mihnea Constantinescu, met Ambassadors of the IHRA’s member and observer countries in Bucharest to mark the start of Romania’s Chairmanship  and to present the Romanian priorities.
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) was deeply saddened and shocked by the terrorist attacks which took place in Brussels on 22 March.
"Bystanders, Rescuers or Perpetrators? The Neutral Countries and the Shoah" is the second volume in the IHRA publication series and offers a trans-national, comparative perspective on the varied reactions of the neutral countries to the Nazi persecution and murder of the European Jews.
On 8 March 2016, Romania assumed the Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
