Minister Laz?r Com?nescu

On 13 September the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Lazăr Comănescu, received a delegation of representatives of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

The delegation included the IHRA Executive Secretary, Dr Kathrin Meyer, and Romanian IHRA Chair, Ambassador Mihnea Constantinescu, as well as incoming Swiss Chair Ambassador Benno Baettig and former IHRA UK Chair Sir Andrew Burns. Ambassador Michael Baier (Austria) attended in his role as Chair of the group currently carrying out an evaluation to take stock of the IHRA’s achievements since its founding in 1998.

In 2016 Romania holds the chairmanship of the IHRA.  During the meeting the participants discussed preparations for the forthcoming IHRA Plenary meetings to be held in Iași in November as well as progress in the promoting Holocaust education, research and remembrance on an international level.

Minister Lazăr Comănescu also underlined the importance Romania attaches to strengthening IHRA’s capacity and also its involvement in efforts to combat antisemitism and other forms of prejudice and discrimination.
