Serbia Establishes 22 April as Official Day of Remembrance

14.12.2011

On December 5th 2011, the National Parliament of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Law on State and Other Holidays in the Republic of Serbia.

According to the new law, 22 April will be observed as the National Holocaust, WWII Genocide and other Fascist Crimes Victims' Remembrance Day.  Until now, the Republic of Serbia marked the National Genocide and Holocaust Victims' Remembrance Day on 22 April, as established under the Law on Founding the Genocide Victims' Museum passed in 1992 by the National Parliament of the Republic of Serbia.

Due to this change, the National Holocaust, WWII Genocide and other Fascist Crimes Victims' Remembrance Day will be commemorated as a national holiday in its full capacity in the future.

Serbia also commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January.
