Mass Graves: ITF Publication

In June 2010, the Plenary agreed with the prposal of the ITF's Memorials and Museums Working Group (MMWG) to support the initiative of the MMWG to compile a report on the issue of the mass graves and killing sites in the eastern part of Europe. Compiled by Dr. Tal Bruttmann and the MMWG, the report Mass Graves and Killing Sites in the Eastern Part of Europe provides historical background on the mass executions of Jews and other Nazi victims in the region as well as a survey of the current situation and projects planned regarding identification, marking and preservation of the sites of mass execution. The report assesses the main challenges and obstacles in regard to the preservation of historic sites of this nature, and provides an overview of the political and historical background of the field and the research yet to be made on the international and national/local levels.
