International Holocaust Remembrance Day Event in Singapore

12.03.2014

The Canadian High Commission in Singapore hosted an International Holocaust Remembrance Day event on 21 February.

Over 100 people attended the event, which was co-sponsored by the Embassy of Israel.  Canadian High Commissioner Heather Grant and Israeli Ambassador Yael Rubinstein both delivered remarks.  Dr. Joel Zisenwine, director of the research project “The Deportations of Jews” at Yad Vashem, also spoke about the importance of Holocaust education.

During the event the CBC documentary Hana’s Suitcase was screened for attendees.  The winning designs from the "Keeping The Memory Alive" poster design competition were also displayed both in print and digitally.  “Keeping The Memory Alive” is a joint project supported by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance between Yad Vashem (coordinators), in cooperation with the London Jewish Cultural Centre, United Kingdom, the European Shoah Legacy Institute, Czech Republic, the 2014 Canadian IHRA Chairmanship, and the Holocaust and United Nations Outreach Programme.
