Holocaust education for civil servants

04.10.2016

In the week of 20-24 September 2016, the National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania `Elie Wiesel` signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various partners to ensure Holocaust education for civil servants.

The MoU was signed with the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, the National School for Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest, the representatives of the main political parties in Romania, the Institute for Political, Defense and Military History and the Romanian Intelligence Academy. The main objective of the MoU is to ensure training for civil servants from the central and local administration as well as representatives of the political parties in the field of Holocaust history and remembrance.

The basis of the Memorandum of Understanding is the commitment made by Romania during its chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and the implementation of the recommendations formulated by the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania chaired by Elie Wiesel. The new trainings for the civil servants are a continuation of those organized in June and July 2016 during the Romanian IHRA Chairmanship.
