The fourth international conference of the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism is taking place in Jerusalem from 28-30 May.
This will be the first meeting of the Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism since 2009.
Held under the auspices of the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs ministries, attendees include foreign diplomats, Jewish communal heads and representatives of nongovernmental organizations from over 50 nations.
The goal of the conference, according to the Foreign Ministry, is to formulate a “concrete action plan” to “combat anti-Semitism’s growing threat.” Gideon Behar, director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Combating Anti-Semitism and a Head of the Israeli Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, stated that “many people feel that we need to adopt a different approach in tackling anti-Semitism,” and that the “conference is geared toward action.”
There will be 10 working groups, each with a different focus. Participants are also expected to contribute to the conference’s final document, an “Action Plan for Combating Anti-Semitism 2013 and Beyond.”
IHRA Chair Dr. Mario Silva delivered one of the opening speeches of the conference, which can be viewed here.
