'Gender, Sexuality and the Holocaust'

On Friday 10 June the Holocaust Research Centre Royal Holloway, University of London, will hold a one-day workshop entitled 'Gender, Sexuality and the Holocaust'.

The workshop is open to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and others. The idea of the workshop format is to explore issues and ideas in an informal and supportive atmosphere. There will be a number of papers, plenty of time for conversation and a final open panel.

Papers include:

  • Maddy Carey (Independent Scholar) "Jewish Masculinity in the Holocaust: Gendered Environments and the Impact of Passivity on Masculine Identities"
  • Anna Hajkova (University of Warwick): "Why we Need a History of Sexuality of the Holocaust"
  • Lisa Pine (London South Bank University): "What do Male Survivors' Testimonies from Auschwitz Tell Us about Men's Experiences and Behaviour?"
