Council of Europe Organizing Training Workshop

20.08.2013

The Council of Europe, a Permanent Observer to IHRA, is organizing a European training workshop for teachers in coordination with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and the Pedagogical University of Cracow.

The workshop, entitled “Passing on the Remembrance of the Holocaust and the Elimination of People with Disabilities During the Nazi Time," will take place in Cracow and at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum from 26-31 October 2013.

This workshop is particularly designed for secondary or high school teachers working with children or young people with disabilities (physical or mental).

The training will address fundamental issues related to the history and transmission of the remembrance of the Holocaust. The workshop will ask questions about the use of different pedagogical tools in addressing these issues, particularly when teaching history, and also how to utilize the analysis of films, visits to places of memory, and the use of archives.

The workshop will be held in English. There will be an opportunity to put into perspective the different European approaches and to exchange in terms of innovative teaching practices.

For more information, please download the workshop program.  Interested potential participants are asked to fill out the application form and return it before 5 September to carole.reich [at] coe.int
