The Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania is a public institution under the supervision of the Romanian government. Established in 2005 following the recommendations of the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania, it has played an important role for Holocaust education, commemoration, documentation and research in Romania. The Institute publishes the annual review Holocaust. "Studii și cercetări" and its archive contains the most complete collection of official documents on the Romanian Holocaust. Among the Institute’s research projects, the search for mass grave sites at Popricani (Vulturi Forest) and Săbăoani near Iași - coordinated by Adrian Cioflânca, supported by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum – deserves particular mention.

A short video documentary (23 min) on the Popricani project (in Romanian with English subtitles) can be viewed here.
