"A Matter of Comparison"

24.11.2016

The IHRA Committee on the Holocaust, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity has published the report A Matter of Comparison which provides an analysis and overview of Holocaust programs and literature with a comparative focus.

This unique survey offers a global perspective and is accompanied by a database in the form of a map which will be regularly updated.

At the International Conference on Genocide Prevention that took place in Brussels from 31 March–1 April 2014, IHRA Honorary Chairman, Professor Yehuda Bauer stated that “The Holocaust is not unique; it is unprecedented, and that means that it is a precedent that can be repeated (though not in the same way), unless we prevent that”.

Inspired by his urgent call, the Committee on Holocaust, Genocide and Crimes against Humanity took the initiative to hire independent researchers, Carse Ramos and Koen Kluessien, to gather information on organizations worldwide that work on the Holocaust using a comparative approach, as well as literature devoted to the topic.

Covering 119 organizations worldwide ranging from Argentina to Rwanda and from Sweden to Japan, combined with a bibliography consisting of 200 titles, this report provides academics, educators, journalists, politicians, and students with an ever-growing database of both organizations and literature.

The survey was conducted between October 2015 and January 2016. The report was formally presented at the IHRA Plenary meeting in Iasi, Romania, in November 2016.
