Neuberger Holocaust Education Week 2016

10.10.2016

The official program guide for the Neuberger Holocaust Education Week 2016 is available online as well as in print version. Now in its 36th year, the program is organized by the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre in Toronto, Canada and runs from November 2-9.

Progamming includes lectures, film screenings, artistic performances, exhibitions, and survivor speaker engagements. Attendance exceeds 35,000 members of the general public annually.

This year’s theme, the Future of Memory, explores how future generations will perpetuate and innovate the field of Holocaust education and remembrance. The program is enriched by the participation of noted experts Prof. Ron Levy as Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Michael Gray the Educator-in-Residence and Simon Wynberg as Artist-in-Residence.

The Neuberger is proud to welcome Prof. Gavriel Rosenfeld as opening night speaker. His topic, Between Tragedy and Farce: Normalizing Nazism on the Internet is certain to address the unprecedented opportunities and dangers for memory, education and remembrance presented by the internet.

Closing Night marks the 78th anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom and will explore the ongoing relevance of reinstitution on a personal, national and global scale as well as the lingering impact of the events of the pogrom generations later. Austrian National Fund Secretary General Hannah Lessing will address the audience with a compelling account of an unexpected and personal act of restitution.
