IHRA Chair in Lisbon

On 16 June in Lisbon the IHRA Chair, Szabolcs Takács, attended the conference "Teaching and Learning about the Holocaust".
Also in attendance was Ambassador Luis Barreiros who is Head of the Portuguese Delegation to IHRA as well as the Ambassador of Hungary, MemoShoa and the grandson of former Ambassador Carlos Sampaio Garrido.
Sampaio Garrido (5 April 1883 in Portugal– April 1960) was a Portuguese diplomat credited with saving the lives of approximately 1,000 Jews in Hungary while serving as Portugal’s ambassador in Budapest between July and December 1944.
