The Holocaust: Paradigm or Starting Point?

From 24 to 26 October 2016, the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews from Macedonia in Skopje, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science and the Memorial de la Shoah from Paris, France, organized a seminar entitled "Holocaust: Paradigm or starting point?"

The  seminar  opened with introductory addresses by the CEO of the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews from Macedonia, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, the IHRA National Coordinator, as well as by the ambassadors of France and Germany and the Director of foreign relations of  Memorial de la Shoah. The seminar was supported by the embassies of France and Germany.

The lectures at the seminar were presented by eminent international and domestic professors and experts. The seminar agenda included subjects such as how to challenge new forms of antisemitism, antisemitism representation from Nazi propaganda to the digital era, Genocide and mass killings: comparing to singularizing, dealing with competing memories, and how to deal with racial prejudices.

This traditional educational seminar, held for the third consecutive year, was devoted to a specific target group – history professors from secondary schools in the country. The seminar was attended by 43 professors who took an active part in the work and proceedings, expressing great satisfaction with the interesting topics and quality of lectures. Their general assessment was that these kind of seminars contribute to improving and broadening their knowledge about different aspects of the Holocaust, genocide, antisemitism.
