Council of Europe to Hold Symposium in Thessaloniki

The Council of Europe will hold a symposium entitled "Holocaust in Thessaloniki" on 17-18 October 2012.

The symposium has been organized jointly with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.  It will take place in the Ceremonial Hall of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Greek and international speakers will address the symposium participants, and the format will include roundtable and panel discussions with the audience on various issues.  The symposium aims to look at the history of Thessaloniki, as well as the current status of education and research on the Holocaust in Greece, among other topics.  Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the Thessaloniki Jewish memorial.

A book fair devoted to the theme of the Holocaust will be held in the University Hall during the symposium.  Additionally, films on the theme will be screened continuously for the duration of the conference in an adjoining room.
