Action Day for Human Rights Online

05.12.2016

On 10 December 2015 the No Hate Speech Movement is organising a European Action Day for Human Rights Online.

The activities of the day will focus on advocating for more efficient and responsible actions safeguarding human rights online and combating hate speech by social media companies, Internet providers, governments, online game providers and also every Internet user. The Campaign is part of the project Young People Combating Hate Speech Online running between 2012 and 2014. The project stands for equality, dignity, human rights and diversity. It is a project against hate speech, racism and discrimination in their online expression.

You are invited to contribute to human rights online by taking action, online of offline, on this day. The 6 main categories of recommended activities are the following:

  • Sign the petition to make 22 July a European day commemorating victims of hate crime;
  • Comment or report hate content on your social media channels;
  • Speak up for human rights online: upload a selfie with your message beginning with “In my name…” or ‘In our name…”;
  • Learn about your human rights online and about how you can protect them (cards, blog posts, quiz);
  • Report hate speech that you consider violation of human rights to the Hate Speech Watch;
  • Organise an offline action or participate in an event on this topic.

The details of each action can be found on www.nohatespeechmovement.org
